Assam Chapter of Foundation of Quality India starts functioning

The Assam Chapter of the Foundation of Quality India, in an attempt to empower medical laboratories for quality compliance, was inaugurated on Friday at a function held in Guwahati.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Chapter of the Foundation of Quality India, in an attempt to empower medical laboratories for quality compliance, was inaugurated on Friday at a function held here in Guwahati. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and trustee of FQI, Dr. Thuppil Venkatesh, inaugurated the Assam Chapter to enable laboratories in Assam as well as in other northeastern states to deliver quality laboratory services to patients.

It may be noted that FQI is a non-profit organization established way back in March 2013. The organization is mandated to organize and conduct various types of certificate programmes on the latest laboratory developments for medical laboratory professionals. It has its headquarters in Bengaluru.

Along with setting up the Assam Chapter of the organization, a four-day training programme also got underway on the international standard ISO 15189:2022, with several laboratory professionals in attendance. The training was imparted by the CEO, FQI Bengaluru, Dr. Thuppil Venkatesh, and the State Director, FQI Tamil Nadu, Dr. M. Parthiban. In the course of the training, Dr. Thuppil Venkatesh said that since laboratory sciences are very dynamic and ever-changing, regular orientation courses are required for the professionals to keep track of the latest innovations for the benefit of the patients.

Synchronizing with the launch of the Assam Chapter of FQI, Dr. Moushumi Saikia and Dr. Teresa Biswas were entrusted with the role of directors of the organisation in Assam.

It may be noted that FQI has trained more than 25,000 laboratory professionals on the development of quality management systems as per international standards. Besides India, FQI has been imparting training programmes in countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Iraq, etc. Several doctors and laboratory professionals were present on the occasion, stated a press release.
