Assam CM lays foundation for new flyover at Maligaon

The flyover will connect Maligaon with Kamakhya Gate and Pandu Ghat

Guwahati: The foundation stone for the new flyover in Maligaon was laid today. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the new flyover, connecting Maligaon with Kamkhya Gate and Pandu in the city.

The proposed flyover is a four-lane one, which will start from Maligaon and end after crossing the Kamakhya Gate at Assam Trunk Road. It will have an extended arm to the road leading to Pandu Ghat. The estimated cost to construct the flyover is Rs. 383.72 crores. The Assam PWD (Roads) will construct the flyover under the 'State-Owned Priority Development (General) Scheme.' The target to complete this flyover is two years from the date of construction.

CM Sonowal said that the rapid infrastructure development in the city will make Guwahati the gateway of South East Asia. The infrastructure development is the state's top priority to make Assam one of the best states in India. Under the State Capital Region Plan, Guwahati will be expanded from all the four sides, added Sonowal.

Guwahati has been included in the first round of Smart City Project by the Central Government indicates that both the State and the Central government aims to make Assam and Guwahati, the new engine of growth for the country.

Mentioning about PM Narendra Modi's motto – 'transformation through transportation,' 15 thousand km of roads have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), against the slow-paced development in previous governments. CM also said that rapid development has been seen in various sectors including agriculture, science, and technology, business, etc. The focus of the Central government over the state has led to the construction of four new bridges over the Brahmaputra, he added.

Comparing the struggle of the people for basic amenities during Congress's government to now, CM said that the present government has not given any reason to protest for development. He requested the people of the state to, maintain peace and unity for the timely completion of these projects. He also urged the people of Maligaon to be patient through the little hardships for the construction and wait for the completion of the new flyover.

Senior BJP leader Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the flyover will help in reducing the traffic, and will lead to the smooth movement of people and vehicles in the said areas. The flyover at Ganeshguri will soon be completed, and the flyover at Super Market area is going in full swing. He mentioned that a study is being carried out regarding the feasibility of a flyover connecting Guwahati Club to Bamunimaidam. He highlighted the various milestone of the present government's successful tenure.

MP Biswajit Daimari, Commissioner and Special Secretary of PWD Rajesh Kemprai, and several other dignitaries were present at the event.
