Assam: Commissioner’s nod sought for Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Guwahati

In a formal letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati city, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia today sought permission for a roadshow and padayatra as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi in Guwahati.

GUWAHATI: In a formal letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati city, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia today sought permission for a roadshow and padayatra as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi in Guwahati. Saikia emphasized in the letter that the Yatra will pass through Guwahati on its way from Morigaon district to Kamrup on January 23, 2024.

“The Yatra will pass through Guwahati on its way from Morigaon district to Kamrup on January 23, 2024. We have applied for permission for the same on January 12, 2024, and on  January 19 mentioning the route in Guwahati City. Besides, the Guwahati Press Club, located at Ambari, has given invitation.

As such, I would request you to grant permission for roadshow, padayatra,  etc. as prayed for on January 23, 2024, from Jayanagar to Ganeshguri Flyover via  Betola Tiniali, Manabendra Sarma Complex.  In order to make minimum public inconvenience, you may issue traffic  restrictions on commercial vehicles and slow moving traffics, such as, LMV, HMV,  e-rickshaw, thela, etc. in the road in which you may permit roadshow, padayatra,  etc, with exception of school buses and emergency vehicles.”, the letter states.

Saikia requested that the commissioner to consider the case and provide the permission. He also asked for a communication to him on the action taken in the matter.
