GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) demanded strong action against the people involved in the suicide case of Indrani Tahbildar. Addressing the media, APCC leader and MLA Nandita Das, Vice President Pranati Phukan, Vice President Bobbeeta Sharma, and General Secretary Roselina Tirkey criticized the BJP parties and the BJP-led government and said that the party leaders are involved in corruption and extort money in the name of giving jobs. All these scams came to the forefront after the suicide case of Tahbildar. The police are well aware of the fact that those party leaders take money for promising jobs. So an FIR should be lodged against them for involving themselves in corruption. They should be arrested and punished.

After the press briefing, the APCC leaders moved to the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, and submitted a letter demanding strong action and punishment against people involved in the corruption of cash for jobs scam leading to the suicide of BJP leader late Indrani Tahbildar.

The letter stated, "It is with great concern that we from the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee are writing to you on the case of the suicide of lady BJP leader late Indrani Tahbildar. As per reports in the media, the unholy nexus of cash for jobs in the Assam government is now in public view and exposes the internal corruption within the BJP party that is running the Assam government. It also exposes the vulnerability regarding the safety and dignity of women in Assam. The leak of photos on social media and the circumstances leading to the suicide of Indrani Tahbildar as divulged through phone calls (also leaked through social media) speak volumes about how social media is being used as a tool to compel a person to take the extreme step of ending one's life. Since the people who are involved in taking cash for jobs in government related to the Indrani Tahbildar case have themselves revealed their involvement in such a scam and are already known by police, they should be booked for corruption charges, and those who were perpetrators of leaking photos, videos, and phone calls of the deceased person should be given stringent punishment for cybercrime and booked under abetment to suicide charges."

"Since the Central Government under the Prime Minister and the Assam Government under the Chief Minister claim to have zero tolerance with regard to corruption, we hope they will take cognizance of the corruption that is going on within the party men for government jobs and punish those involved in such activities. Thus, the circumstances leading to the suicide of Indrani Tahbildar expose a ring of corruption in cash for jobs in the present government, and Assam police should ensure the people of Assam that the guilty will not go scot-free," the letter added.
