GUWAHATI: The Assam CLP (Congress Legislature Party) has decided not to field a candidate in the forthcoming Rajya Sabha bypolls to the vacant seat from Assam. This was announced by APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) working president — Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha while talking to the media here on Saturday.
Dey Purkayastha added that the CLP's decision was taken as the Congress lacks the requisite numbers to win the seat in the Upper House of the Parliament. He further stated that the CLP will convey its decision to APCC.
He pointed out, "However, the Congress will fight the upcoming State Assembly bypolls all by itself. We won't go for any tie-ups with Raijar Dal and AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front).
