GUWAHATI: Assam's DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has termed the execution of two youths by the ULFA-I as a shameful act of cowardice.

Mahanta on Sunday also refuted the outfit's claim that the youths were police agents and said that the police had no connection with the two youths.

He further said that the ULFA-I has caused a lot of bloodshed over the years and that the Assam Police has been caring for more than 1,200 children whose families fell victims to militants.

Mahanta described the allegation as a conspiracy. He pointed out that ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah had responded positively to proposals regarding the peace process and said that it would be a foolhardy move to send spies to the ULFA-I camp now.

The DGP advised the youths of the State not to join the militant group as it would be a bad decision.

On Saturday, two members of the banned ULFA-I were reportedly killed for allegedly spying on the organization as per the direction of the Assam Police. The two cadres have been identified as Dhanjit Das alias Roopak Asom and Sanjib Sarma alias Rishav Asom.
