GUWAHATI: The State Education Department has chalked out various activities which school students must do during their ongoing summer vacation. In this regard, instructions have been issued to school headmasters district-wise. This has been done to ensure that students spend their summer vacation in a constructive way.

Among the various activities, students will have to trace their family roots and visit their grandparents’ native place, they will have to visit their neighbours’ houses and interact with them, they will have to perform small household chores, undertake some planting activities and write about their experiences in each subject in the curriculum within the specified number of words.

This development comes soon after the direction that schools which have secured B, C and D grades in Gunotsav conducted earlier this year, will have to conduct remedial classes and extracurricular activities for at least 10 days during the summer vacation. There was much resentment among teachers regarding this move.

According to Education Department sources, these activities for students have been listed so that they spend their summer vacation in a constructive way. “These activities will help students bond with their families, their neighbours and with nature. This will help to develop their mindset in the right direction,” said sources.
