GUWAHATI: State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu has assured members of the All Assam Primary TET Qualified Teachers' Association that he would sit for a detailed round of discussions with them after the Budget Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly concludes on March 31.
The assurance came during a meeting held at the Janata Bhawan here on Friday.
According to an office-bearer of the association, the Education Minister gave a patient hearing to the grievances of the TET qualified primary school teachers.
The demands raised by the association before the Education Minister included regularization of their posts, release of arrear Daily Allowance (DA), clearance for transfer via mutual arrangement, amending of transfer-related rules, clearance for medical reimbursement, death benefits to their next of kin, facilitation of banks, etc.
Advisor to the Education Department, Nani Gopal Mahanta and officials of the Sarba Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Assam were present at the meeting, the source said.
It may be mentioned that there around 40,000 TET qualified primary school teachers. Its members had worn black badges at work last month in protest against the Education Minister's comment that they should quit their jobs and seek alternative employment if they are unhappy with their present circumstances. They also undertook a gherao programme at the SSA office in the last week of February.
