GUWAHATI: Rana Dutt, an independent filmmaker from Assam, has achieved the unique distinction of being nominated for the prestigious "Jean Luc Godard Awards 2020" with his maiden cinematic venture "The Dancers of Dubi", a documentary film that the Cult Critic Films awards of 2019-20 selected from among 3,500 submissions from more than 140 countries across the globe.

It may be mentioned that "The Dancers of Dubi" under the banner of 'Tomahawk Films' earlier garnered laurels at the Tagore International Film Festival, the Virgin Spring Cinefest, Cult Critic Film Festival and the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival.

The docufilm depicts the lives, strife and struggles of the Devadasi dancers of the Shiva temple of Dubi village in the district of Barpeta in Assam. Additionally it also attempts to restore in some measure the respect and honour attached hitherto to both the dancers and the dance form. RanaDutt is currently based in Hyderabad, stated a press release.
