Assam Government asks Colleges to fill up vacant assistant professors’ posts

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has asked principals of all provincialized colleges to fill up vacant posts of assistant professors.

Till December 2019 altogether 665 posts of assistant professors were lying vacant in colleges. A notification issued by the Higher Education department on February 4, 2020, gave approval to the governing bodies of provincialized colleges for filling up the vacant posts after fulfilling certain terms and conditions. The notification has asked the governing bodies of colleges to ascertain that the posts are not subjudice/personal posts and not already withdrawn by the government. The governing bodies will also have to give an undertaking that the sanctioned posts concerned have not been previously filled up. The Higher Education department has also asked the governing bodies to ensure that posts are filled up with strict compliance with the provisions of the AFRBM Act, 2005, existing reservation Act and Rules.
