Assam Government eases Covid curbs for mobile theatres

Assam government on Friday issued fresh Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) allowing mobile theatre groups allowing their shows maintaining Covid-19 protocol issued by the State Health Department.

GUWAHATI: Assam government on Friday issued fresh Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) allowing mobile theatre groups allowing their shows maintaining Covid-19 protocol issued by the State Health Department.

The theatre groups have to complete their shows before the night curfew timings. Moreover, the plays are restricted in containment zones.

More than 30 to 35 mobile theatre groups could not stage their plays since first wave of Covid-19 pandemic situation in the state since March 2020.

"We have decided to grant permission the mobile theatre groups to stage plays on some certain conditions," Health Minister Keshab Mahanta told reporters while releasing the SOP on Friday.

"The SOP will be effective from today. But the State government may issue fresh SOP depending on the Covid-19 situation of necessary" Mahanta said.

"The members of the organizing committees, actors and other artists have to take double doses of Covid-19 vaccines to take part in the shows," he said.

"The organizing committees have to seek permission from district administration or sub divisional administration for inviting theatre groups to stage plays," the minister also said.

"The viewers have to wear masks. If necessary, the organizing committees have to provide masks to the viewers, if they do not wear masks in the theatre premises," he said.

"The organizer committees have to keep hand sanitisers in all entry gates of the theater shows," he also said.

"Ticket should contain the tag of "follow Covid protocols" in bold letters," he further said.

"All actors, artists and other people involved in the theatre groups have to take both doses of Covid vaccines. They have to file self-declaration before the district administration or sub divisional administration in this regard," the minister also said.

All actors and other people involved with the theater groups have to go for Rapid Antigem Test (RAT and RT-PCR within a gap of two weeks to avoid Covid infection.

The district and sub-divisional administration have to organize vaccination camps near the theatre pandal if necessary.

Both the theatre groups and organizing committees have to maintain social distancing in the theatre pandal, the minister also said.

Violators will be dealt with strict provision of law," he added.
