Assam Government forms state G-20 Secretariat

The Assam Government formed a G-20 State Secretariat for smooth G-20 events scheduled in Assam from January to April 2023.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government formed a G-20 State Secretariat for smooth G-20 events scheduled in Assam from January to April 2023. Following a notification from the Government, the Personnel Department has partially placed seven officers in the G-20 State Secretariat.

The seven officers are PHE, Water Resources and Irrigation Additional Chief Secretary Syedain Abbasi, Dibrugarh DC Biswajit Pegu, Finance and Cultural Affairs Secretary Laya Madduri, Transport Secretary Adil Khan, Kamrup (M) DC Pallav Gogal Jha, PHE Secretary and Swacch Bharat Mission (Gramin) MD Kailash Kartik N and Kamrup DC J Keerthi.

The G-20 State Secretariat will be fully responsible for the overall conduct of the G-20 events placed in the state in close coordination with the Central G-20 Secretariat.

Assam will host as many as five G20 meetings next year, as decided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the chief ministers and governors of various states at a virtual conference recently.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "Happy to attend the virtual conference with CMs addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah to review preparations for events of G20. Grateful to Prime Minister for giving Assam the honour to host five G-20 meetings".

Four of the five G20 meetings scheduled in the state are likely to be in Guwahati and one in Dibrugarh.

The G20 Delhi Summit is likely between October and November 2023. As a part of the G20 Summit, there will be more than 200 events/sessions across major metro cities of the country. The seminars and meetings will focus on health, labour, finance, environment, education, climate change etc. Sessions like T-20 Summit, W-20 Summit, Y-20 Summit, and Think Tank Summit are among the 200-odd events.
