Assam Government issued Job cards under MGNREGA to temporary tea labourers

The Assam Government has started issuing job cards under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to temporary tea labourers in tea gardens and so far, 69,595 job cards have been issued.

GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has started issuing job cards under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to temporary tea labourers in tea gardens and so far, 69,595 job cards have been issued. After the new government was formed in the State, a decision was taken to issue job cards to temporary tea workers.

This was informed by State Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass while replying to an unstarred question asked by MLA Terash Gowalla during the winter session of the Assembly on Tuesday.

In his reply, the minister said that those temporary tea labourers who have got job cards can work within the premises of their respective tea gardens if they want, or they can also go outside the tea gardens to work. In this regard, necessary instructions have been issued, said the minister. He further said that these tea labourers with job cards will get their wages within 15 days, and they daily wage has been fixed at Rs 224.
