GUWAHATI: The State Government on Monday placed under suspension Kisan Kumar Sharma (ACS), Joint Secretary of the Home & Political Department, who was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VAC) for taking a bribe on Friday night.

According to a Notification issued in this regard by the Personnel (A) Department, "The Governor of Assam… in exercise of powers conferred under Rule 6 (2) of the Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1964, is pleased to order that Shri Kisan Kumar Sharma, ACS, Joint Secretary to the Government of Assam, Home and Political Department is deemed to have been placed under suspension with effect from the date of his arrest, i.e., 29/10/2022 until further orders."

It may be recalled that sleuths of the VAC on Friday arrested Sharma while he was taking a bribe from a person in lieu of renewing the license of a private security firm. Later, a raid at Sharma's residence that night led to the recovery of an amount of over Rs 49.24 lakh. Sharma was trapped by the VAC and caught red-handed in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs 90,000 from the applicant for license renewal, who had alerted the sleuths previously about the demand for illegal gratification.
