Assam Governor flags off SSB cycle rally to celebrate 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'

Participants to spread message of health clubbed with the spirit of 'love for nation'

GUWAHATI: As a part of the celebrations of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' on the occasion of 75th anniversary of the Independence of the nation, Assam Governor (Prof.) Jagdish Mukhi flagged off a cycle rally of SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) personnel from the premises of Raj Bhavan on Saturday.

The cycle rally participated by 17 SSB personnel will pass through various States to cover approximately 2,000 km to reach Rajghat in New Delhi within 36 days.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Mukhi said, "I urge everybody to appreciate the objective behind the cycle rally which is to promote healthy lifestyle among the youths and also encourage them to stay fit".

He also said that cycling is one of the best ways to stay healthy, adding that "it is a clean mode of transportation". He appealed to the SSB cyclists taken part in the rally to spread the message of healthy living mixed with the ethos of love for the country during their journey through different parts of the country.

Thanking the SSB for taking the initiative in starting the cycle rally to be traversed through historical and other places of importance linked with the freedom movement of the nation, the Governor said that it showed the spirit of SSB's love for the nation and its people. He also hailed the SSB for its intimate association with the people of Assam.

He also said that SSB's association with guarding the State's international boundary with Bhutan has instilled a sense of security among those people living along the border. SSB's deployment along the borders, controlled the crime rate. He also attributed patrolling the border areas and improving the living condition of the people along the border to SSB's unflinching commitment. He also urged the SSB to remain devoted to address the changing dynamics of security narratives and evoke the supreme sacrifices of the personnel in fulfilling their duties.

The Governor further said that the SSB is also playing a crucial role in inculcating the spirit of nationalism and humanitarianism among the border population via village-level coordination meetings, civic action programmes, vocational skill development sessions, study tours for students and distribution of farming equipment among the people living along the border. He also wished all the success to the the cycle rallyists.

The First Lady of Assam — Prem Mukhi, SSB Director GeneralKumar Rajesh Chandra, SSB Inspector General Sanjeev Sharma, Deputy Inspector General (Rangia Sector) Jagdeep Pal Singh, Deputy Inspector General (Bongaigaon Sector) Anthony Thanmi, Deputy Inspector General (Frontier Headquarter) Sonam Bodh, Secretary to the Governor Swapna Dutta, other officers and employees of Raj Bhavan were present on the occasion.
