GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria attended the annual function of Seva Bharati and also inaugurated the new hostel of Seva Bharti Kamakhya Nagar Charitable and Dharmik Trust in Guwahati on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that selfless service is the mantra of life, and Seva Bharati is practicing the adage by promoting it all around. The governor said that service is the medium of worship, and there should not be any thought of discrimination while providing service. A nation can be capable and competent only when all the people in it work for each other selflessly.

Referring to Swami Vivekananda, who said that those who are living for others are really living and those who are living only for themselves are almost dead, the governor advised them to follow it in their personal lives. Therefore, there should be a sense of service among the people. Organisations and social workers engaged in public welfare and social work should motivate people for social service. He also said that leading personalities should involve themselves in selfless service to motivate others to follow suit.

The Governor hailed the efforts of Seva Bharati for providing selfless service to society, thereby enriching the intellectual, spiritual, and cultural aspects of the people. He said that he is happy that the trust is working with the positive intent to bring about qualitative and ethical transformation of society. The governor expressed happiness that the hostel, which he inaugurated, would provide the students with the opportunity to stay there and pursue their studies without any hindrance. It may be mentioned that the new hostel under the “Seva Sankalp” project of Seva Bharati has accommodation for 50 students. The students coming from economically weak backgrounds will be given free lodging, food, and shelter. The hostel also has a computer centre for imparting computer education to the students.

Social worker Ullas Kulkarni, President of Seva Bharti Purvanchal Ramen Sharma, President of Seva Bharti Kamakhya Nagar Charitable and Religious Trust Pranab Bora, Chief Executive Officer of Star Cement Pradeep Purohit, Shyamal Kumar Bhattaharjee from India Carbon Trust, members, students, and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion, stated a press release.
