Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi releases women-safety handbook 'Shakti'

A handbook titled ‘Shakti’ which is brought out by Minakshi Singha, a young self defense trainer was released by the Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagadish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

GUWAHATI: A handbook titled 'Shakti' which is brought out by Minakshi Singha, a young self defense trainer was released by the Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagadish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

Minakshi said that the booklet on women-safety encapsulates essential tips for personal safety, important legal provisions and safeguards regarding crimes against women, sexual harassment at workplaces as well as important phone numbers and helpline numbers.

The handbook has been printed in both English and Assamese languages. This handbook on women also lists ideas as to how the women can protect themselves while during travelling or otherwise.

A total of 10,000 handbooks will be distributed free of cost to school-going girls from the Standards IX to XII including college-going and working women initially, said Minakshi.

"The handbook would go a long way in creating awareness amongst the women and girls about their rights and safety" said Governor Mukhi.

Minakshi is a student of Class-IX from Pandu, Guwahati. She has been conducting free self defense training for women for last two years, stated a release.

Governor Mukhi extends Good Friday greetings: Governor (Prof.) Jagdish Mukhi wished the people, particularly those belonging to Christian community on the auspicious occasion of 'Good Friday'.

In a message here on Thursday, Prof. Mukhi said, "Good Friday reminds us the supreme sacrifice of Lord Jesus Christ who laid down his life for saving the humanity from the unending influence of sins. On this occasion of Good Friday, let us all remind the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and follow his teachings to lead us from sinful path to virtuous path, from ignorance to wisdom, from injustice to justice and from darkness to light. On this occasion let us all pray to Lord Jesus to guide us to lead a life of just and righteousness".

In view of the prevailing pandemic situation, the Governor has urged all to make religious gatherings only by following the adequate safety measures and pray for health and wellness, peace and prosperity of the people of the State.
