GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi mentioned to Lieutenant General Manoj Pande, GOC in C, Eastern Command, Indian Army about the smuggling of arms, gold, drugs and liquor through Myanmar via Moreh and requested the Indian Army to play a more dominant role in combing the Inter-state movement of such contraband especially through Nagaland.
Lieutenant General Manoj Pande, GOC in C, Eastern Command, Indian Army, HQ Kolkata accompanied by Lieutenant General Robin Khosla, GOC 4 Corps Indian Army, HQ Tezpur, called on Governor Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan, Guwahati on Monday.
The Governor enquired about the security situation and Army's presence in the Upper Assam districts viz., Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat and Charaideo. He also enquired about the abduction of the employees of ONGC from the exploration sites. The Governor appreciated the perfect coordination between Assam Police, the Indian Army and other security forces deployed in the State.
He further discussed his views on the maintenance of a peaceful ecosystem in the state of Assam and assured the Indian Army of all support in its effort to defend the Nation. The Governor also mentioned the recent State-level security review conducted by him and appreciated the efforts made by all security agencies including Assam Police, Indian Army, BSF, SSB and CRPF, stated a release.
