GUWAHATI: The AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) has taken pot shots against the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) for publishing 'misleading' advertisements in newspapers after being scared of defeat in the polls.

AJP general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan said that the BJP has resorted to such 'immoral strategies' after sensing defeat in Upper Assam.

"The BJP has been trying to lure the conscience of the voters. It is an ill strategy to publish such advertisements. But the people of Assam are determined to not let the BJP succeed with such political strategies. The BJP has violated the guidelines of the ECI (Election Commission of India) and also the advice of the Supreme Court by publishing such misleading advertisements," Bhuyan said.

"The advertisements published by the BJP in almost all the newspapers in the State, both vernaculars and in other languages, carry the news that the saffron party has won all the seats which went to poll in the State of Assam on March 27. But we apprehend that such advertisements published by the BJP in the grab of news is intended to influence the voters who are yet to vote in the next two phases. In the interest of free and fare election, it is therefore earnestly requested that the ECI should intervene on the matter immediately and stop the BJP from publishing such unwanted and immoral advertisements," the AJP stated in a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam.
