Assam: Journalists Anil Barua, Prafulla Kumar Dutta, Arunlochon Das Remembered

 GUWAHATI: In remembrance of the three journalists who passed away recently namely Prafulla Kumar Dutta - advisor of the Sanskritik Sangbadik Santha Assam, Arunlochan Das - the founder president and advisor of the organization till his last breath and Anil Barua - senior journalist, a memorial event was organized at the Gauhati Press Club on Saturday.

The vice president of Sanskritik Sangbadik Santha Assam, Gautam Sarma led the event which began with the lighting of earthen lamps and offering floral tributes to the fallen journalists followed by a minute of silent prayers in their remembrance. Assamese film director Manju Borah remembered the contributions of the journalists in the sector during the event and called the contributions of the late Arunlochon Das an important gift to society.

Advisor of Sanskritik Sangbadik Santha Assam Utpal Dutta spoke about the life and work of the late Prafulla Kumar Dutta and shared several incidents from his life as a cultural reporter.

It can be noted that during the same event, the Sanskritik Sangbadik Santha Assam unveiled a memorial publication in the memory of Arunlochon Das and Prafulla Kumar Dutta with the name ‘Sowaran’. The publication edited by journalists Mrinal Kumar Bora, Mintu Saikia, Hemanta Sarma and Pallave Dwijen was officially unveiled by the State Information Commissioner Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta. Speaking on the occasion, Mahanta lauded the efforts of the organisation towards remembering the noted journalists and paid his respects towards them.

President of Sanskritik Sangbadik Santha Assam, Bitupan Barua also spoke about the journalists and shed some light on their work in the past years. Actor Jatin Bora was also present at the event organized at the Gauhati Press Club and remembered his experiences with the late Arunlochon Das. A former journalist and current Member of the Rajya Sabha, Pabitra Margherita also attended the event and offered his homage. Apart from the dignitaries, a large number of senior as well as novice journalists attended the event and paid their respects to the late journalists.
