GUWAHATI: Sometimes, Assam hogs the limelight for the wrong reason. This time, the focus is on the state police personnel. And in most of such cases, it is primarily due to a few of them that the entire force comes under the public scanner.

This time, Assam is at the top of list of cases registered against state police personnel in India. This has been revealed in the latest data of NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau). In 2020, of the total 4,720 cases, altogether 2,179 cases were logged in Assam.

Of the 2,179 cases in Assam during 2020, charge sheets were filed in three cases while four police personnel were arrested.

Besides Assam, Arunachal Pradesh logged 244 cases followed by Manipur (10), Tripura (seven), Nagaland (three) and Meghalaya (two).

Mentionably, no other state or union territory registered even 1,000 cases against state police personnel in the country that year. Maharashtra registered 407 such cases followed by 261 in Andhra Pradesh, 223 in Rajasthan, 207 in Gujarat.
