Assam Mid-day meal workers demand job regularization

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Primary And Upper Primary Mid-Day Meal Cook And Helper Association on Monday demanded the Government to regularize the jobs of the 1,17,000 employees under the banner.

The protesters also demanded a hike in the monthly salaries of the cooks and helpers and also medical and pension facilities for them.

Addressing the media, the body's vice president Khudeja Khatun stated that from 2004 onwards the workers are being deprived from all the benefits which a government employee receives.

Khatun said that the mid-day meal workers are working on a nominal amount of Rs 1,500 per month and they have demanded a hike of up to Rs 9,600.

The protesters threatened that they will resort to rail blockade and gherao Janata Bhawan if the Government doesn't accept their demands.
