Assam MLAs to meet Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina on November 20

The ensuing goodwill mission to Bangladesh by more than 30 MLAs of the Treasury and Opposition benches of the Assam Legislative Assembly has been rescheduled to for November 18-23 instead of November 15-20.

GUWAHATI: The ensuing goodwill mission to Bangladesh by more than 30 MLAs of the Treasury and Opposition benches of the Assam Legislative Assembly has been rescheduled to for November 18-23 instead of November 15-20.

The Bangladesh Government has informed the Assam Legislative Assembly Secretariat that a time slot has been reserved on the evening of November 20 for the MLAs' delegation to meet Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina. The delegation will also meet some other ministers of Bangladesh on the same day. During the visit, the MLAs of Assam will be meeting Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh

The MLAs' team will be led by Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary. Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia will be a part of the delegation, which will be accompanied by a cultural troupe to showcase Assam's rich culture in Bangladesh.

The delegation will visit a village named Rangamati where some Assamese people reside. The delegation will hold talks with these people. There will also be a cultural exchange between the cultural troupe from Assam and the villagers of Rangamati.

The delegation will also visit Khagrachari in Chittagong which is inhabited by Bodo people. They will interact with the people living there and there will also be a cultural exchange programme.

Meanwhile, Assembly Speaker Daimary held a meeting with high officials of the State PWD on Wednesday to review construction of the new House. Daimary instructed the officials to complete the ongoing work by December next.

Talking to The Sentinel, Daimary said that efforts are being made to ensure that the next session of the Assembly can be held at the new House.
