Assam: Noted Assamese Litterateur Atulananda Goswami Passes Away

Goswami was born in 1935 and his most notable work is a book titled 'Namgharia' apart from books like Hamdoi Pulor Jon, Seneh Jorir Ganthi, Rajpaat, Polatok' and 'Ashray.

Guwahati: Prominent Assamese writer Atulananda Goswami, passed away at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here on Wednesday.

As per reports, he was admitted and was undergoing treatment for some time.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled the death.

''The demise of noted writer Atulananda Goswamidev deeply saddened. I will remember his contribution to Assamese literature and social life forever. I pray to God and offer our deepest condolences to the family, praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul of the 'Namgharia Creator','' he tweeted.

Goswami was born in 1935 and his most notable work is a book titled 'Namgharia' apart from books like Hamdoi Pulor Jon, Seneh Jorir Ganthi, Rajpaat, Polatok' and 'Ashray.

In 2006, Goswami was also awarded the Sahitya Academy award for his novel named Seneh Jorir Ganthi'.

Besides this, Goswami was also awarded the Kumar Kishore Memorial Award and in 1992, he won the Katha award for creative writing for his Boliya Hathi.

Notably, he has also been involved in the translation of many English, Bengali and Oriya texts into Assamese.
