Guwahati: The Assam Photojournalists’ Association observed “World Photography Day” in Gauhati Press Club on Monday. Several photojournalists and journalists gathered in the Gauhati Press Club, and some of the photographers’s photos have been displayed in digital mode.

Like, every year, The Assam Photojournalists’ Association conferred an award, and this year the award was given to Photographer Saurav Duarah of Dibrugarh. During the day-long programme, renowned Assamese artists Chetana Das, senior journalists Naresh Kalita, Prakash Mahanta, Rabi Shankar Ravi, Sanjeev Kumar Phukan, Achyut Patowary, and general secretary of All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS) Aditya Khakhlari were present.

The tradition of honoring photojournalist on World Photography Day has been upheld by Assam Photojournalists’ Association for several years. Last year award was bestowed upon Dhaniram Kalita, senior photojournalist with Assamese Pratidin newspaper. This year’s award package included gamocha japi, cheleng chadar citation and cash prize of Rs 10,000. The event was skillfully hosted by journalist Pallavi Bora. She contributed to celebration's warm and festive atmosphere.

On World Photography Day Directorate of Museums, Assam in collaboration with Assam State Museum, launched temporary photo exhibition titled “Saga in Pictorials: Resonance from Past.” Exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. Ranoj Pegu Minister of Education and Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture among other departments in Assam.

During his inaugural address, Dr. Pegu spoke about dynamic nature of photography. Its vital role in documenting history culture and society is essential. He underscored importance of preserving and celebrating art of photography. Art has seen remarkable transformations throughout years. Exhibition aims to showcase rich heritage and evolution of photography. It invites attendees to reflect on its significance in capturing moments and narratives that define our collective past.
