GUWAHATI: The Durga Puja festive season has gripped the city. With just a few days left for the festivities to begin, the Kamrup (metro) administration has issued new guidelines, including strict traffic rules for the festival.

Strict action will be taken against traffic rule violators. Driving under the influence of alcohol will lead to heavy fines upto Rs 10,000 and the licenses of the violators will be cancelled for three months. Wearing helmets for both the rider and pillion rider will be mandatory. Drivers have been urged not to ply cars in front of the Puja pandals. Four-wheelers will have to be parked only in the parking space provided by the city police.

The Puja committees have been asked not to set up pandals on the streets. Driving on the wrong side will also attract a hefty fine during this Puja. Puja committees have been asked to apply for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from both APDCL and PWD. CCTVs have to be installed in all Puja pandals on a priority basis. Immersion of idols at Pandu Ghat will not be allowed this year. Immersion will take place at Betkuchi, Basistha, Kachari and Sansali ghats.
