GUWAHATI: As per Hindu mythology, playing dice on the day of Diwali is considered auspicious. With the passage of time, the dice has been replaced by cards. People now organize card parties on the day of Diwali. Friends and relatives get together and play cards with limited stakes. However, this has also started the trend of gambling during Diwali.

The Special Director General of Police (DGP), Assam Police, GP Singh on Tuesday informed that the Assam Police would keep a check on illegal gambling activities in the State. He also urged upon the citizens of the State to inform of any such credible information of organized gambling activity.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, GP Singh said, "Next few days would see attempts at organized gambling activities including amongst well to do people. People may inform of any such credible information of organised gambling activity to local @assampolice unit or inbox me to allow action to be taken."
