GUWAHATI: Gaurav Gogoi, who was appointed as a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Sunday, was felicitated at Rajiv Bhawan on Monday. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Assam Congress Legislative Party (ACLP), APCC cells, and departments welcomed and felicitated him.
APCC President Bhupen Borah, in his welcome speech, welcomed Gogoi and congratulated him. Borah said, “The CWC is a very old institution of the Congress, and the first 70-member CWC was formed in December 1885 with Umesh Chandra Banerjee as the President. Many Congress leaders from Assam were appointed to the CWC, but for the first time, a youth leader like Gaurav Gogoi was appointed to the committee.”
“APCC thanked Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi, All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge, and former president of AICC Rahul Gandhi for including young MPs like Gaurav Gogoi for the first time. The Congress is a party with representatives of all ethnic groups along with senior and young members. Gaurav Gogoi, who represents 40 per cent of the people of India, has been included in the CWC. Apart from this, leaders like Shashi Tharoor, who contested against party president Mallikarjun Kharge, have also been included in the CWC. Senior leaders like former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sonia Gandhi, and Ambika Soni have also been included in the CWC. This is the policy difference between the BJP and the Congress, where the BJP neglects the senior leaders. I hoped to get good results in the Lok Sabha elections in Assam under the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi,” Borah added.
After being felicitated, Gogoi said, “I thanked the Congress, as it is through their hard work and prayers that he is in such a position. I thanked my father, Tarun Gogoi, and all the Congress workers for this.”
Gogoi said the Congress would form a majority government in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Gogoi said the Congress will win all 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. He said the people of Assam will eradicate the corrupt BJP not only from Assam but from the entire country. He too criticised the AIUDF.
The felicitation programme was attended by MLAs Bharat Chandra Narah, Diganta Barman, Khaliluddin Mazumdar, Bhaskar Baruah, APCC Vice President Bijan Sarma, general secretaries Ramanna Baruah, Apurba Bhattarchary, Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress President Mira Borthakur, and others.
