GUWAHATI: The APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) has strongly opposed the move of the State government to impose fees for the construction of houses at the panchayat level.

Making public this stand of the State Congress, APCC spokesperson Basanta Kumar Sharma posed before the media on Thursday, "The question is, how can the people, who are unable to pay the higher rate of land, bear the burden of new taxes imposed by the new charter of the government?"

The APCC further said that the move will adversely affect "those who want to open a small shop and live in a house or who want to live at home".
