GUWAHATI: The leaders and members of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) staged a protest at the Manabendra Sharma Bhawan in the Last Gate locality of Guwahati against the hike in power charges in the state. The protesters burned copies of the notification regarding the increase in power tariffs as a part of this protest. The protesters also took a pledge during this protest that if the Congress party came to power, they would provide 200 units of electricity free of charge every month to deserving households in Assam.

Speaking during the protest, MP Gaurav Gogoi said, “The CM is using the people of Assam as his personal ATM. Every time the government runs into serious debts, they increase the taxes, tolls, duties, and electricity bills, and therefore the poor people have to bear the brunt of the failure of the government. And the poor people are increasingly becoming poorer because of the increasing taxes and bills.”
