GUWAHATI: Assam Public Works (APW) has lodged an FIR with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against former NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela.

APW general secretary Dhurbajyoti Talukdar said that in the FIR, APW accused the then coordinator of tampering with the NRC process. The allegations include disobeying the orders and directions of the Supreme Court of India, making a false document, causing forgery of public register and committing offenses under Cyber laws for altering/changing public records by misusing his position and power.

The Final List of NRC published on 31st August 2019.

The complaint stated that after the publication of the final list of NRC, it was reported in various social networks and media that many anomalies were done in the final list and many illegal and doubtful people were able to register their names. APW stated that after the issue was raised by them and the news was published through different media, Hajela tempered with the Final list of NRC published on August 31, 2019, by illegally getting the access into the web page by misusing him power and position. The organization demands to conduct a further enquiry for his involvement in cybercrime in the whole process of NRC.

Addressing a press meet on Wednesday, Assam Public Works president Abhijit Sarma alleged that the NRC was a scam and the Central and State government has not taken any action against Prateek Hajela. He said, APW has already lodged two FIRs with the CBI and several FIRs all across the state against Hajela but the Home Department is not focused towards the NRC scam. The department lodged the FIR with CID on February 7.
