Assam records highest drugs seizure by NCB among Northeastern states

GUWAHATI: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has revealed that Assam topped the list among Northeastern States between 2014 and 2021 (till November) when it came to seizure of various narcotic substances.

According to NCB sources, Assam ranks fourth behind Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Telengana in the drugs-seizure list of the NCB at the all-India level in 2021 (till November). NCB seized 9,746.681 kg of various drugs in Uttar Pradesh along with 1,15,272 bottles and 30,91,114 tablets during this period. NCB seized 8,695.264 kg of various drugs and 12,296 bottles in Bihar. In Telengana, the NCB seized 7,514.7 kg of various drugs during this period.

In Assam during this period, the NCB seized 7,416.2151 kg of various drugs along with 85,183 bottles and 900 tablets.

In all, the total amount of various drugs seized by the NCB in Assam between 2014 and 2021 (till November) is 26,034.9131 kg. Apart from this, the NCB also seized 137,767 bottles and 19,696 tablets/capsules.

During the eight-year period, Manipur followed Assam in the list among Northeastern States. The NCB seized 1,556.821 kg of various drugs in Manipur, along with 2,09,328 tablets.

Tripura has come third in the list among Northeastern States. The total drug haul in that State between 2014 and 2021 is 2133.97 kg of various drugs along with 1,180 tablets.

In Mizoram during this period, the NCB seized only .460 kg of drugs. In Meghalaya only .6 kg of drugs was seized during this period. At the same time, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh registered nil seizures.
