GUWAHATI: Mentioning that the paddy crops in several districts of the state have been adversely affected by pests, the Sanjukta Kisan Morcha has demanded that the agriculture department of the state compensate the farmers for the losses.

Expressing deep concerns, they mentioned that the concealed department just provides suggestions and publishes advertisements but fails to perform its duties. They also mentioned that the state government has not taken appropriate steps to spray necessary medicines on the crops, causing losses to the farmers.

They mentioned that even after knowing that pests attack crops almost at the same time every year, the agriculture department failed to take corrective measures. Along with the immediate release of necessary compensation, the convenor committee of Sanjukta Kisan Morcha called on the member organisations to meet up with the farmers and take steps to present the problems to the government.
