GUWAHATI: While the entire nation along with the
rest of the world has set its eyes on the young and energetic boxer from Assam,
Lovlina Borgohain's family in her hometown has already begun receiving congratulatory
messages.
Lovlina's father, Tiken Borgohai told the media that they have been flooded with messages and support from all corners of the state since she became the third boxer in Indian history to win an Olympic medal at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics 2020 last month.
Lovlina's semifinal bout will be against reigning world champion Busenaz Sumeneli of Turkey, while prayers have already begun pouring in for her success.
The information and public relations department of Assam, Janasanyog has circulated a press release where it informed that earthen lamps were to be lit in Guwahati's Nehru Stadium premises to express solidarity with Lovlina and pray for her victory. Assam Chief Minister Himanata Biswa Sarma also participated in the prayer ceremony for wishing her luck.
The release state, "On August 3, 2021, earthen lamps will be lit at Nehru Stadium Ulubari, Guwahati at 6 PM to express sincere solidarity with Lovlina Borgohai and pray for her best performance in the Olympics Women's boxing semi final."
It further read, "The programme will be attended by Dr Himanata Biswa Sarma, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Assam and other dignitaries. "

"Lovlina Borgohain the ace boxer who has become the first Assamese to secure a medal in the history of 125 years of Olympic Games, would bout in the seminal final tomorrow to secure her berth for the historic Olympic final. In an attempt to pray for the boxer, a programme was organised in the Nehru Stadium to lit a candle which was participated by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
By lighting a candle in front of the statue of Radha Govinda Baruah, Chief Minister Dr Sarma marked the auspicious inauguration of the programme.
Later talking to the media, Chief Minister Dr Sarma said that for wishing Lovlina Borgohain for the semi-final to be played on Wednesday at 11 am and praying for her, the programme was organised. He also appealed to everybody to pray for Lovlina and lit a lamp in the morning for Lovlina.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Bimal Bora, Information and Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika, Urban Development Minister Ashok Singhal, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan and several office bearers of Assam Olympic Association and sports enthusiasts were present on the occasion.
It further requested all media persons
to attend and cover the program. Thousands of hearts came bearing earthen lamps
to wholeheartedly pray for Lovlina's win."
It may be mentioned that before
Lovlina, Vijender Singh, and MC Mary Kom have won bronze at the Olympics. The talented
and spectacular 23-year-old Lovlina from Assam is all set to become the first
ever Indian to make it to the final of a boxing event at the Olympic games.
Her proud father Tiken Borgohain was filled with positivity and told the media that she will bring more glory to the nation and that to Assam.
On being asked about the prediction of the match as Lovlina will be facing a world champion, he said, "That will only be known once the boxers are inside the ring. one cannot undermine anyone who is taking part in Olympics. They are all best in their fields. To know that, we will have to wait once the fight is over. Whoever performs the best will win."
