GUWAHATI: The Assam State Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Union (ASANWU), affiliated to the CITU, has called a statewide strike on May 23, 24, 25, and 26. The union said the strike was called by the Anganwadi workers and assistants across Assam for the second day, and a demonstration was held at the premises of the District Social Welfare Officer's office.

In Guwahati, the protest was held at the premises of the District Women and Child Welfare Department office in Beltola. The union's veteran leader Mira Pathak, state secretary Indira Newar, and district secretary Junu Chetia spoke at the function and expressed their anger over the indifference of the Assam government towards the demands of Anganwadi workers and assistants. However, no minister or official of the Assam government has been able to say that the demands made by the Assam State Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Association are unreasonable or unfair.

The union's state leadership called on all workers and assistants in Assam to intensify their agitation for the next two days.
