GUWAHATI: After people reported the sighting of a leopard in the Hengrabari region of the city of Guwahati, the forest authorities issued a warning asking people to stay careful regarding possible instances of conflict.

Officials of the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden have urged the people residing in the Hengrabari locality of the city to be careful. They also banned the people residing in the nearby areas of the zoo from entering the Hengrabari Reserve Forest. They also asked the people of the residential colonies not to climb the hill inside the state zoo as footprints of a leopard were discovered there.

A patrolling party was dispatched by the zoo authorities to find the leopard if it was still there. The authorities also urged locals not to venture out alone when it is dark and asked the parents not to leave their children alone to avoid any possible untoward incident.

Meanwhile, another leopard which had been spotted by many people of the Samdang Tea Garden located in the Tinsukia district of the state was finally trapped in a cage placed by the forest department. The local people had complained that two leopards had been plaguing the region in the past few days. They had also consumed many of the pet animals in the past and posed a major threat to humans. And so, the local people decided to complain against them to the forest department. Taking action based on these complaints, the authorities decided to place a trap in the tea garden.

The first leopard was captured using the same trap a few days back. And now the second leopard has been caught in the trap. The trapped leopards are to be released in a nearby forest by the forest authorities.
