GUWAHATI: Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah formally inaugurated the festival at an event organised in Guwahati on Thursday. While talking about the traditions around the festival, he iterated the steps taken towards the support of the devotees coming for the festivities. The minister also mentioned the steps taken towards the development of religious tourism around the Ambubachi Mela, adding that religious tourism is an essential part of domestic tourism.

Ambubachi 2023 starts at 2:30 AM on June 23, and the state and district administrations have taken due steps to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.

The Kamakha Devalaya administration has mentioned that a good number of devotees have already arrived at the temple to take part in the event. They also mentioned that about 1000 devotees have been accommodated at the camp set up in Pandu. Owing to the ongoing construction of the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge, camps will not be set up in the Sonaram Field near Bharalumukh this year. The field will be used only for parking purposes. They also requested the district administration’s full support for the event and to ensure that the devotees do not face any problems.

Meanwhile, the district commissioner of Kamrup (M) visited all the campsites and took stock of the arrangements made. He expressed satisfaction regarding the preparations and said that devotees would not face any problems. It was mentioned that although the weather has been very unfavourable in the last few days, proper action has been taken to ensure the devotees’ facilities.
