Assam: Two-day silver jubilee celebrations of DBHRGFTI on January 10 in Changsari

GUWAHATI: Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute (DBHRGFTI) will be celebrating its Silver Jubilee Function at its campus in Changsari on January 10 and 11, with a cultural procession organised on January 9 in Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati, which will be flagged off by Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah.

The Cultural Procession will comprise around 200 people, which will start in Rabindra Bhawan, move via Handique Girls’ College, Gauhati High Court, and finally return to Rabindra Bhawan. Prof. Amarjyoti Choudhury has also composed and tuned the Institute song with music arranged by Rupam Talukdar.

The Silver Jubilee Function will feature various activities and presentations, including speeches, a conclave or open forum, cultural performances, and a look back at the achievements and progress made over the past 25 years.

There will be three conclaves to be conducted, of which the first will be held on January 10. The subject of the first conclave is ‘Film Schools: Cultural, Social, and Economic Contributions’. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, Principal Secretary, Cultural Affairs, Govt. of Assam; Prasanta J. Baruah, Executive Editor, The Assam Tribune; Debajit Changmai, Sound Mixing Engineer, Mumbai, will join the panel; and Dominic Sangma, a film maker and screenplay writer from Meghalaya, will moderate the conclave.

The second conclave will be held on January 11 on the subject ‘My Life in Films: Navigating Dreams and Ambiguity’.

The third conclave will be held on January 11 on the subject of ‘Cinema as a Soft Power’.

The finale programme will be held on January 11, which will be attended as a chief guest by Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, who will attend the programme as the chief guest in the finale of the Silver Jubilee Function. Dr. Samudra Gupta Kashyap, Chancellor, Nagaland University; Jahnu Barua, Eminent Film Maker; Manju Borah, Eminent Film Maker; and Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, IAS, Principal Secretary, Cultural Affairs, will attend as the guests of honour.

There will be a cultural programme on January 10 and 11, where several veteran artistes like Pulak Banerjee, Samar Hazarika, Shanta Ujir, Sangeeta Borthakur, Rupam Bhuyan, Lou Majaw from Shillong, and Arup Baruah will participate in the cultural programme. Pranjal Saikia, an eminent actor, will perform a recitation and a play on ‘Charandas Chor’ by BA Theatre Group.
