Assam Yet to Submit Utilization Certificates (UCs) Worth Rs 51.62 Crore

Assam is yet to submit utilization certificates (UCs) of NEC (North Eastern Council) projects amounting to Rs 51.62 crore in the past five years (2016-17 to 2020-21).

GUWAHATI: Assam is yet to submit utilization certificates (UCs) of NEC (North Eastern Council) projects amounting to Rs 51.62 crore in the past five years (2016-17 to 2020-21). This has been revealed in the statistical report of the Ministry of DoNER.

The NEC funds various development projects in Assam and other States of the Northeast.

According to the statistical report, in the past five years, the NEC released Rs 185.08 crore to Assam. Rs 98.04 crore of the amount remained unspent till March 31, 2021. The State Government is yet to submit utilization certificates of 39 projects amounting to Rs 51.62 crore.

The Ministry of DoNER's statistical report further said that in the last 17 years the NEC sanctioned 211 projects for Assam amounting to Rs 1955.45 crore. While 125 of the projects costing Rs 1205.63 crore were completed, 86 other projects costing Rs 749.82 crore are still going on.

The nodal department of the State Government for NEC projects is T&D (Transformation & Development) Department. The projects, on the other hand, are executed by various other departments.

The T&D Department is putting pressure on the departments executing NEC projects, but their response is not encouraging.
