Guwahati:  Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, Chief of All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) visited three-time former Chief Minister of Assam and veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Gogoi is undergoing treatment for post-COVID issues.

Ajmal said that Gogoi is doing well now. "Assam's politics is incomplete without him", said Ajmal referring to Tarun Gogoi. He said that the newly-formed regional parties should come under the umbrella of Congress and AIUDF to give a tough fight to BJP that has been in power in Assam since 2016, the first time that the saffron party came to power in Assam.

Prior to this, it is only Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) who managed to form a non-Congress Government in Assam post the Assam agitation of 1983 and the Assam Accord signed in 1985.

Ajmal visiting Gogoi in the hospital gains significance amid reports of AIUDF and Congress planning to fight the upcoming Assembly elections of 2021 together.
