GUWAHATI: The auxiliary nurse and midwife (ANM) of the mobile medical unit (MMU) under the National Health Mission (NHM) have demanded to continue their services.

Addressing the media, the president of the All Assam Mobile Medical Unit ANM Association, Bobi Saikia, said, “We 260 ANM has been working in the MMU since 2017 under NHM. We were recruited by the Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT), which is a national not-for-profit health services organisation. And for the working of the MMU, the NHM and HLFPPT had an agreement. And this agreement will be completed on October 15. This time, to work for the MMU, an agreement has been made with a new organization named CAMP to work with. There have been advertisements regarding the new recruitment process put in place by CAMP. But NHM issued an order that the new recruitments for the MMU will be made for General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) instead of ANM. This in turn poses a problem for the ANM, as we will not be getting jobs. We were providing service for a very long time, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“If we lose our jobs, what will be our future? What could be the possible reason for recruiting GNM instead of ANM? We demand job security, and we urge the Health Minister as well as the Chief Minister to intervene in this matter.”
