GUWAHATI: AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal requested Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to send the DPR (Detailed Project Report) to the Union Ministry of Ayush for the setting up of a Unani Medical College in the Dhubri district of the state under the centrally-sponsored scheme of development of AYUSH Institutions.

In a letter to the Chief Minister on Friday, Ajmal said that he had been making efforts for the establishment of a Unani Medical College in the Dhubri district under the centrally-sponsored scheme for the development of AYUSH institutions since 2009.

"I raised the demand on the floor of Parliament and had written several letters, and also had several meetings with the then Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare. A letter from the Union Health Minister dated December 27, 2012 suggested that the Centre could act on the request only after receiving the Detailed Project-Proposal Report (DPR) from the State Government. Pursuing this, I had written to the then Assam government to send a proposal along with the DPR to the Centre in this regard. However, no further progress has been seen in this regard," Ajmal said in his letter.

He further said, "Union Minister of AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal has asked me, through a letter, to approach the Assam Government to send the proposal regarding the Unani Medical College and Hospital in Dhubri through the State Annual Action Plan (SAAP) as per provisions of the National AYUSH Mission (NAM). Therefore, I request you to kindly send the project proposal to the Union Ministry of AYUSH regarding the establishment of a unani medical college and hospital in Dhubri through the State Annual Action Plan (SAAP)."
