GUWAHATI: Keeping an eye on the Corona pandemic, State Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that 'this Durga Puja should be ritualistic, instead of being celebratory' so that the spread of the virus can be put on check.

On the sidelines of the inauguration of the extension wing of the Flyover at Ganeshguri in Guwahati on Thursday, Sarma said, "We've had hard days in the recent past. We couldn't celebrate the Bohag Bihu, Eid etc. Now we are celebrating the Durga Puja amidst slight improvement in the pandemic. However, we need to keep an eye on the spread of the virus. Our pujas should be bare minimum rituals and devotion. Next year, I hope, we'll celebrate the Durga Puja with its usual pomp and gaiety."

The Durga Puja has been underway in the State from Thursday. The Mahasaptami Puja is on Friday. It is seen in Guwahati that the celebration is low-key, observing the bare minimum rituals. Puja pandals are not highly decorated.
