GUWAHATI: Several protest rallies were taken out over the streets of Guwahati to show solidarity with the farmers of the nation who are protesting against the three farm laws passed in Parliament recently.

To show resentment against the Centre's decision, the protesting farmers in the national capital called for a Bharat Bandh on Tuesday which was backed by several organizations of the city.

Streets of the city wore a deserted look as shops and business establishments were partially closed in the prime market areas of city including Paltan Bazar, Pan Bazar and Fancy Bazar. Assam State KrishakSabha and several other organizations including Left organizations were seen taking to the city roads and raising slogans while demonstrating against the new farm laws.

The protesters called on the people to make Bharat Bandh a success and support the farmers. In the Kahilipara area, protesters were seen burning tyres and raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

According to reports, the police detained at least six of the protesters for obstructing public road and trying to create disturbance in the area. Demanding retraction of the farm laws, the All India Road Transport Workers' Federation supported the Bandh and raised slogans against the Modi government.
