GUWAHATI: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) has alleged that the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has deprived the disabled people from government schemes and jobs.

PSSA secretary Nripen Malakar said the government has not completed a single work for the development of the disabled people.

"During the lockdown period, the government provided financial assistance to various sections of the people excluding the specially-abled persons. The same is going to happen in the implementation of the Orunudoi scheme," Malakar opined.

State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that in the Orunudoi scheme preference will be given to the specially-abled persons. However, in reality these persons have been excluded from the selection list created for the aforementioned scheme, he claimed.

Malakar stressed that if the government wants to help Divyangs it should add Rs 830 of the Orunudoi scheme to the amount of Rs 1,000 which the disabled persons are receiving monthly.

"In case of appointments, the government has neglected the Divyangs. Recently, thousands of teachers were appointment and government didn't follow the rule of the four per cent reservation for the disabled people. On August 11, a total of 382 schools and colleges were provicialized but same was not done for none of the schools for the disabled children," he said.

Further, pointing out the Basistha Blind High School, he added that the government has not taken any step for its provincialization.
