Big haul of heroin, ganja recovered by Railway Protection Force

Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway recovered contraband/smuggled goods worth more than Rs 1 crore during the last few days, according to a press release.

GUWAHATI: Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway recovered contraband/smuggled goods worth more than Rs 1 crore during the last few days, according to a press release.

The seized items include 990 gm of heroin worth around Rs 99 lakh (recovered at New Jalpaiguri station) and 21 kg of ganja worth around Rs 2.10 lakh (recovered at Agartala station).

In an incident on January 5, acting on information received from a Central intelligence agency regarding presence of a drug trafficker at New Jalpaiguri railway station area and the possibility of transporting the narcotic drugs by train, a joint team of RPF/Post/New Jalpaiguri and officials of the intelligence agency conducted vigorous check/drive over the platforms of New Jalpaiguri railway station. During the check/drive at Platform No. 2, they apprehended a person identified as Samsul Shaikh (25), son of Nafar Shaikh, resident of Baranaldaha under Palasipara in Nadia district of West Bengal, with a black synthetic leather bag.

On being questioned, he gave a misleading reply, which created more doubt upon him. As such, he was brought to RPF Booth, New Jalpaiguri for further interrogation.
