GUWAHATI: Upbeat at the thumping victory in the recent Lok Sabha election, the BJP and the AGP are set to sound the bugle for town committee and municipal board elections now.

The two parties have already had a preliminary meeting at the top level and agreed in principle to fight the civic body election together. According to sources, the two coalition partners have already started a ward-wise analysis to know their respective strengths vis-à-vis wards. Such an analysis, according to sources, is aimed at fielding the right candidates and of the right party.

According to sources, the civic body election may be held at the end of this year or early next year. The State Election Commission (SEC) will conduct this election.

The civic body election was held last in the State in 2015 during the Congress regime. The BJP won most the wards in that election. It was followed by the Congress and the AGP.

According to sources, the ward-wise preparation of the electoral rolls for the civic body election will start in October this year.
