GUWAHATI: State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita said that the BJP and the AGP would ally in the forthcoming GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) poll. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma spelt out that the party should keep its eyes wide open to see if any BJP member is making statements against the party in public.

The party met with its district presidents and district in-charges at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan here today. Besides the Chief Minister, the party's State president Bhabesh Kalita and other office-bearers were present at the meeting.

The Chief Minister appealed to the party workers to work sincerely for the public interest. He spelt out in clear terms that the party should keep its eyes wide open to see if any negative statement against the party comes publicly from any party member.

The meeting discussed the just-concluded municipal board election in the state and the selection of chairmen and the vice-chairmen of municipal boards.

Talking to the media before the meeting, Bhabesh Kalita said, "We are ready for the GMC election. And will fight this civic body poll in alliance with the AGP."

The GMC poll is likely in April.
