BJP announces candidates for Deori Autonomous Council polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party announced the names of its candidates for the forthcoming Deori Autonomous Council (DAC) election to be held on November 8.

GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced the names of its candidates for the forthcoming Deori Autonomous Council (DAC) election to be held on November 8. While the BJP will be contesting in 18 seats, it has left four seats for its alliance party, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP).

The names of the candidates were announced by Assam BJP president Bhabesh Kalita at a press meet at the party's head office in the city. The candidates are Jatin Deori (Sadiya), Joyram Deori (Kundil), Jugen Deori (Margherita), Bhaskar Deori (Dibrugarh), Hiranjit Bireswar Deori (Kotori), Bhairav Deori (Rajbari), Enu Prabha Deori (Majuli), Bhabani Deori (Sisiborgaon), Junumoni Deori (Siripani-ST Women), Hemanta Deori (Jonai), Rakesh Bordeori (Gogamukh), Amrit Prabha Deori (Bordeouri), Uttam Deori (Kachikata), Bishnu Kumar Deori (Kinapathar), Prafulla Deori (Bangalmara), Rama Deori (Gabharu Tunijan), Sasanka Bordeori (Gohpur), and Jurimoni Deori (Pichala-ST Women).

On the other hand, the AGP will be contesting in the Tengapani, Jorhat, Bordoloni and Bahgorah-ST Women constituencies. The party will announce the names of its candidates later.

Bhabesh Kalita expressed confidence that the BJP-AGP alliance would constitute the DAC. "The Congress is nowhere in the contest," he said and added that the Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) still had a secret understanding.
