GUWAHATI: BJP joining spree continues unabated in the State. While Rajya Sabha MP and BPF leader Biswajit Daimary has already made his plan to join the BJP public, a number of Congress MLAs from upper Assam have also lined up to join the Saffron party.

According to sources, miffed at the Congress forging an alliance with the AIUDF, a few Congress MLAs, especially those from Upper Assam, are likely to join the BJP after the interim Budget session likely to be held in January-end or early February, 2021. The Congress MLAs feel political insecurity in the party's alliance with the AIUDF. Before the corona pandemic struck the State, State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was on record saying that Congress MLA RajdeepGowala would join the BJP. However, the outbreak of coronavirus halted the joining programme. Sources, however, said that Gowala is still keeping in touch with the BJP. Even the APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) has issued a show-cause notice to Gowala.

Meanwhile, sources in the BJP said that it is certain that some of the Congress MLAs will join the party. The Assam Legislative Assembly election is slated for April 2021.
